Kinda 3D: A Charming 3D Font for Creative Branding

As a brand designer, I recently had the chance to test Kinda 3D, a thick, wobbly font in a 3D style, on a real branding project. Created by Darrell Flood, this Script Handwritten font comes with cute little hearts and smiling faces, making it perfect for adding a touch of cuteness to any design.

Kinda 3D for Logo Design and Brand Identity

When I first opened my blank brand board, I was curious to see how Kinda 3D would perform in a logo concept. The font's playful and whimsical nature made it an excellent choice for a boutique identity project. I used it for a local bakery's logo, and the result was a charming, inviting, and memorable design. The 3D effect added depth and dimension, making the logo stand out, especially on a shop sign or packaging mockup.

Kinda 3D in Packaging Design and Product Labels

Next, I tested Kinda 3D on a packaging design for a line of handmade soaps. The font's thick, wobbly style and cute elements like hearts and smiling faces brought a delightful, handcrafted feel to the labels. The 3D effect made the product names and descriptions pop, enhancing the overall visual appeal. This Fonts typeface worked exceptionally well for short phrases and accent text, but I found it less suitable for long body text due to its decorative nature.

Kinda 3D for Social Media Graphics and Web Design

For the bakery's social media graphics, Kinda 3D was a hit. The font's playful and friendly vibe resonated well with the target audience, and the 3D style added a unique, eye-catching element to Instagram posts and Facebook banners. In web design, I used Kinda 3D for the homepage hero section, where it created a welcoming and engaging first impression. However, I paired it with a clean sans serif font for the body text to ensure readability and maintain a professional look.

Kinda 3D as a Display Font and Accent Typeface

Kinda 3D is best used as a display font or accent typeface. Its bold, wobbly, and 3D characteristics make it ideal for headlines, titles, and short phrases. In a creative studio identity, I used it for the tagline and key headings, while a more traditional serif font complemented the main body text. This combination balanced the playful and professional aspects of the brand, creating a harmonious and visually appealing design system.

Practical Tips for Using Kinda 3D in Your Projects

Before using Kinda 3D in your final client work, it's essential to test it thoroughly. Start by creating a few mockups and experimenting with different color schemes and backgrounds. Pay attention to how the font looks at various sizes and in different contexts, such as on a business card, poster, or digital ad. Additionally, review the included styles, alternates, and ligatures to add variety and customization to your designs. Finally, always check the commercial font licensing to ensure you have the right permissions for your specific use case, whether it's for a brand identity, packaging, or digital products.
